Alderson and Mets Not Rushing Anything

We all know that the buzz around town here in ny is the current controversy over how dirty of a team the Jets really. Another just as important story is how the Phillies not only crushed the Yankee’s hopeS of making their starting pitching stronger, but also stretched the gap between the Mets and the Phillies. I’m not saying the Mets had a legitimate shot even if the Phillies didn’t get Lee, but on paper the Phillies staff almost look unhittable. The only saving grace for the Mets is the games are played on the field and not on paper.

General Manager Sandy Alderson did his best to avoid the fact that the Phillies barring no injuries have almost sealed the deal in the NL East.“This is a good addition, no question, but it really does not impact our thinking,” Alderson said. “We’re going to continue to do everything we can to make sure that we have a solid team. The fact that they appear to be a little better on paper doesn’t change our approach for 2011.”

As I mentioned before , yes the games are played on paper but with the approach the Mets seem to bringing to the table, they are not going to compete for years to come. This is an organization who back in 2006 was so close , but since then has only been able to say “so close”. It makes me wonder if all of the moves and firings back when Willie was the Manager was worth it. I think the problem all along was the upper management and although Alderson seems to be coming with the right approach, the question is ” How long will it take for the Mets to be considered a serious threat instead of a laughing-stock ?”

For Mets looking for a miracle, start going to Church right now, for the more realistic fan, after hearing and seeing the direction the Mets are going, I guess you just have to say: Wait till Next Year, and Next Year, and Next Year. You get the picture.
